ANN ELIZABETH BROWN
April 24, 1958 - March
9, 2005
On March 9, 2005, Therapy
Dogs of Southern California, the Orange-County based
chapter of Therapy Dogs, International, lost one of their
original and most beloved members. Ann Brown, 46, passed
away with her family at her side.
Ann Brown was an original member
of TDSC, as well as other therapy dog groups throughout
Orange County. Ann had also volunteered with the Big Sister
program for children with diabetes at Children's Hospital in
Los Angeles.
Faced with numerous illnesses
throughout her lifetime, Ann dealt with each health setback
with a positive attitude and an indomitable spirit. Ann and
her beagle, Ruby, were an inseparable pair, and together
they amassed more than 2,000 visits to patients throughout
Southern California. Despite her own illnesses, Ann bought
joy and comfort to thousands, and she will be greatly
missed.
Tiffany Sullivan This year's winner is Tiffany Sullivan. Although there were many qualified applicants, we appreciated the fact that Tiffany has been able to successfully integrate two Border Collies with a Pomeranian that was rescued from a puppy mill into her home. Tiffany has involved her dogs with flyball, freestyle, frisbee, rally obedience, therapy work, and tracking. Additionally, all three of Tiffany's dogs have earned their CGC certifications, further demonstrating Tiffany's commitment to her dogs. The last time Tiffany attended Iron Dogs she spent the entire time ill with the flu and was not able to participate.
We believe Tiffany deserves another chance to enjoy an Iron Dogs Camp. We know that our friend Ann Brown always believed in giving people a second chance, and we think she would be pleased to know that Tiffany and her dogs our going to get their second chance this year.
This scholarship was created in memory of Ann Brown. Ann and her Beagle Ruby were regulars at our Malibu Iron Dogs Camp, and earned the top Iron Dog title in 2003. The presence of Ann and Ruby at the camp raised everyone's spirit up and touched everyone they met. The Ann and Ruby Brown
Iron Dogs Scholarship accepts applications from anyone
wishing to attend an Iron Dogs Camp. All applicants
will be screened and the recipient selected by Therapy
Dogs of Southern California. Deadline for submission of
each camp season (September to May) will be August 31th
of each year. The recipient will be allowed to choose
which camp they will attend, and the winner will be
announced September 5th. |
